Quietwater Paddling Notes
Greetings!
October is just starting here in Wisconsin. The humidity of August is gone and the thrill of school starting back up is over. Fall colors are beginning to appear and the geese are making lots of noise overhead. Paddling in the fall is a great experience! The crowds have thinned out a good bit and those fall colors are wonderful to paddle through.
This is the first month of our newsletter. The first time around we would like to introduce Quietwater Films and tell you a bit about one of our favorite paddling places. Each month we will feature a new "pleasant place to paddle", ideally a pleasant place submitted by a reader. We will also add in a feature or two about a technique or some other paddling-centric topic that we think will make your paddling life better. We're also equal opportunity boaters, so you will read as much canoeing as you will kayaking!

Introducing Quietwater Films
Quietwater Films lives in the quiet little town of Madison, Wisconsin. Although given the success
that the UW Badgers are enjoying, quiet may have to be replaced. Regardless of loud and numerous
university students, Madison is surrounded by water. This creates ideal conditions for the two of
us, Jeff Bach and Darren Bush, to go about paddling and making movies about paddling.

Pleasant Places to Paddle
Each month in this newsletter, we would like to feature a "pleasant place
to paddle". Between Darren and myself we've paddled in a few places across the country. So I
think we can come up with a few spots we like and can share with our
fellow paddlers. But what we would like to see is this column turning into a showcase for highlighting places that our readers like to paddle. We hope that you, a quietwater paddler, canoe or kayak, one blade or two, will submit an article that tells your fellow readers a bit about other places across the country where they can go and paddle. You don't need to be the next Hemingway, just someone willing to write something about a nice place to paddle. See the bottom of this newsletter for the scant few requirements to submit an article.
The very first "pleasant place to paddle" is Lake Wazeecha, located in central Wisconsin near Wisconsin Rapids. This little lake (upper right picture) has long been one of my favorite pleasant places in the state of Wisconsin. The lake is easy to reach from the Madison area where I live. It is also a reasonable road trip from Chicago or Minneapolis. One of my favorite things about this lake and campground are all the white pines you will find along the lake and throughout the campground. I love those trees. Unfortunately they don't really grow near Madison, so getting to Lake Wazeecha satisfies my urge for those white pines. read more.... |

Quietwater Films DVDs
Paddling boats of just about any shape or form is near and dear to us. We think it's a great way to spend time outdoors with family, friends, or by yourself, soaking up what nature has to offer.
We have also observed that, like most other things in life, there is a learning curve to paddling and boating. With just a bit of specific knowledge and some tips and hints, we think your paddling will become easier and lead to even more enjoyment. That is where we hope our DVDs will be of use. Here is our website where you can read more about the DVDs we have made and watch some video clips taken from the DVDs. If they look like something you want, you can also purchase them from our website.

| Our goal is a once a month newsletter. We will not sell your email address to anyone else. We just hope that you like what you read here and pass it on to others that you think might enjoy Quietwater content!
If you want to write an article about your pleasant place to paddle, all you need to do is write it using the software of your choice. You can send it in directly in email or as an attachment (doc, txt or rtf). Send along a few pictures of your spot as well. You get credit for the article, the rights to it remain yours, but obviously we will post it on the Quietwater Films website and publish it in the email newsletter. You can link to it or otherwise use it as you see fit. If needed, we will edit for spelling and grammar and send you a pre-release copy for your approval before the newsletter goes out.
Enjoy your Quiet times,
Jeff Bach
