From our condo on the main drag of Cocoa Beach, it was a tiny little drive to the Thousand Islands.
reserve. This is a big shallow mangrove swamp at a wide spot in the Banana River. A really neat
spot. All of us, young and old, really enjoyed this kayak tour. A bunch of us went. Great place.
Well worth the money. I've done plenty of paddling, but never in a place like this. The
manatees were there.
They came right up next to the kayak I was sharing with my third grade daughter. Scared the !@#$
out of her. All I had to do was reach out my hand and touch. Just like wet rubber. They are scary
and interesting and odd and fun all wrapped up in one huge watery package. Believe their closest
relative is the elephant.
