Labor Day weekend, 2008

Clear but dark water. The campground on the south shore of Lake Wazeecha, where I took this picture, has several campsites that each include a small beach. Our site had one of these beaches, which is where this picture comes from. The water is clear but dark. This is tannin staining. Tannins are part of tannic acids. Regardless, when plant remains decay in water, tannins leech into the water and make a tea-colored stain. Wikipedia does a great job explaining tannins and tannic acid.
